JACKLEX UPDATE

I am pleased to advise that the new owner is Mark Lodge and his temporary email is: jacklexminiatures@gmail.com

He can be contacted immediately on this address. He expects production to commence no later than 30th September.

18th October 2016

Unfortunately due to increasing material costs, Paypal and bank charges we have had to increase some of our prices from 1st November 2016. This will only affect the SSM 18th century ranges where the foot figure price will increase from 55p to 60p per figure and mounted figures will increase from £1.55 to £1.65. There are a few adjustments to some of the Jacklex artillery and equipment costs but all the foot and mounted figures are staying the same for the time being. I am pleased to say there are NO changes to the Shiny Toy Soldier and Classic ranges. This is the first price change for three and a half years.

GRANT SIZED REGIMENTS

However, I am pleased to say that we are keeping our special discount offers for the standard SSM 18th century range as shown below.

19th March 2015

CLASSIC – FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR RANGE – AUSTRIAN ARMY 1859
After a quiet spell, we are pleased to announce that we have added Austrian Cavalry, Cuirassiers, Dragoons, Hussars,(AC1 – AC6) Austrian artillery crew and a 6 pdr cannon (AA1-AAG1). We have also added some German Guards in both Plumed helmets and Mitre caps to our Franco Prussian War range (PGM1/2 – PG1-PG10).
I’m pleased to advise that we have been able to hold the prices of all our figures in this range.

CLASSIC – NORMANS AND SAXONS

As a result of customer requests we have added two sets of lose left arms for the Saxons and Normans to create militia/Fyrd figures (AS10 and NM9). Each set of three lose arms cost 60p.

CLASSIC RANGE UPDATE

We have added, as promised, a range of ANGLO SAXONS in 30mm to go with the new Normans so gamers can refight the Battle of Hastings and other conflicts of the Norman era, late 10th and 11th century. These will also be useful reinforcements for the beleaguered peasants and Robin Hood outlaws, admittedly, they are a couple of centuries too early, but change was slow in those days! As before, these are all listed under the CLASSIC tab.

PRICE CHANGES from 1st April 2013

Unfortunately due to ever increasing metal and postal prices, we have had to increase some of our prices, particularly for our SSM standard ranges. Foot figures are now 55p each and the mounted are £1.55, still very competitive, we believe. We have also slightly increased the price of our 30mm horses from £1.40 to £1.50, and Jacklex 20mm horses are now priced in at 50p each, up from 45p and there are some adjustments to the Jacklex equipment/artillery ranges, but the basic figures remain unchanged at 45p each. Pleased to say there are no changes to our STS/LITTLE BRITONS range or Classic ranges (except for the horses). I am told there are no increases in the Royal Mail postage charges this coming year which is a relief.

FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR CLASSIC RANGE UPDATE

The Lancers and Dragoons are now ready and uploaded under reference FPPM10-18 for the Prussians and FPFM11-19 for the French. The mitrailleuse gun and crew and some Chasseurs d’Affrique are shortly due. Also, I have been wondering why my store box for the Bavarian private advancing at high porte has been overflowing! The reason is simple – the figure FPB8 was not listed. Daft or what! Now it is.

SHINY TOY SOLDIERS

We have a whole new range of LITTLE BRITONS due in the Autumn to replicate H.G.WELLS battles of the late Victorian England in his book LITTLE WARS. More anon.

CLASSIC RANGE UPDATE

The Wurttenbergers are now ready and listed from FPW1 to FPW8. Also, we have added some Brunswick infantry and these are listed from FPB9 to FPB12. More cavalry are due soon.

We are also doing something else which is very different for SSM and have introduced a range of ‘ROBIN HOOD AND HIS MERRY MEN’ figures. These consist of, Robin Hood (Errol Flynn or Richard Greene depending on which side of the pond you are) a cluster of his merry men, plus several Norman knights in loads of poses as they slash and hack their way through Sherwood forest looking for those elusive brave rogues who ‘took from the rich and gave to the poor’. These are all listed under the CLASSIC tab and have the same attention to detail as the FPW range.

IT GREMLINS and PUBLISHING

Thanks to those eagled eyed customers who spotted a couple of gremlins on our website and Colin, our IT guru has now sorted them out.  Colin, bye the way, does many things, but his central business is publishing ‘small book runs’ (all with ISBN numbers), at extremely reasonable prices - rules, autobiographies, histories, short stories  -  that sort of thing. His company is called DataTech D.T.P. So if anyone wants to be put in touch with him just let me know.

FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR 30MM RANGE

The Jagers are now ready and uploaded under reference FPP15 – FPP18 and the Wurtenbergers should be ready soon.

SHINY TOY SOLDIERS

We have added lots more arms, bodies, and heads and these are now all uploaded with new codes (TB38 to TB42  and TBC11 and 12 for the bodies, TA13-16 for the arms, and TH49 – TH66). All the bodies cover both ends of the mid 19th century with TB38 – TB40 and TBC11 and 12 covering late Napoleonic Europe, Latin America and some mid century U.S types. The last two (TB41 and 42) cover the Austria Franco Prussian wars. All the heads from TH54 to TH66 are based on plates from AUGUSTE DE MOLTZHEIM’S tome, ‘The French Army during the Restoration 1814 -1830’. These heads are a more exaggerated shape than other hats but should add real character to the toys. They can of course be used for more than just the French.

THE BATTLEFIELDS TRUST

Please note that we are supporters of the Battlefields Trust. This is a charity (registered number 1017387) dedicated to preserving battlefields from destruction and decay and actively promoting their use for re-creation and events. If any customers, wishes to make a donation then please just add something to your order and I will make sure it gets directly to the BT. Thanks.

FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR 30MM RANGE

The French Marines and  Grenadiers have now been completed and uploaded on our website. The jagers will be added shortly. I am really pleased about the reception we have received for this new range of classic figures and current sales have encouraged me to continue to add to the range. Therefore we are working on some Wurrtenbergers and new cavalry figures for the immediate future.

SHINY TOY SOLDIERS

We have added two more foot figures to this popular range. One with ‘coatee with crossbelt and waistbelt’ will be coded TB38 and the other is ‘Tunic with crossbelt and waistbelt’ and is coded TB39.

PRICE CHANGES FROM 1st. AUGUST 2011

Unfortunately, the familiar story of rising metal and postage prices have meant that we have had to review our prices quite closely. The result is that there is an increase to the price of our SSM figures. Mounted figures have increased to £1.45p each and the guns are now £2.25 each. NO change to the price of foot figures.
The Willie/Tradition/ HE figures prices have also been revised upwards, and also we require a minimum order of £12 to process these figures as we have to order them direct from Sweden.
The Jacklex prices have also changed, slightly. The mounted figures are now £0.90 (up from 85p) and the equipment prices have also changed, but I am pleased to say that the basic price of 45p per foot figure remains unchanged.
Finally, some good news (or lack of bad news!!) is that there are NO PRICE CHANGES to the Shiny Toy Soldier and Classic ranges.

BITS AND PIECES

One of my customers, Joe from the USA, has alerted me to his model soldier site which is very exciting and professional looking so for those who like to search out new blogs and soldier sites here is one to add to your favourites – www.joesoldiers.com. You won’t be disappointed. What is also of interest to me is that Joe is a member of a fantastic ‘folk’ band which produces some lovely music; so those who like music as well as toy soldiers go and have a look at www.evacappelli.com.

FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR 30MM RANGE

We are pleased to add additional items to our growing FPW range of classic 30mm wargaming figures. These are French and Prussian artillery pieces and crews, plus cavalry troopers and officers. Also, hot off the press from the designer are the French Zoauves which are also listed. French grenadiers, the Naval Battalion and Prussian Jaegers are also underway.

Please note that horses for these figures need to be purchased separately in order to give choice to the type used. In addition, following a number of customer comments we have introduced  slightly smaller horses (H range) for the FPW range, but also retained larger ones (HH range)  for use with the WILLIE 30mm and TRADITION 30MM mounted  figures, because as customers for these ranges are aware it is possible to purchase riders and horses quite separately. Of course, for the purist, you can purchase the larger horses for the Heavy cavalry (cuirassiers) for the FPW range. As ever you take your choices -----.

NEW SHINY TOY SOLDIER CASTINGS

I am delighted to say that we have a lot of new castings under our Shiny Toy Soldier range. Aly has provided me with 12 foot bodies, 4 mounted bodies, 14 new heads and, by popular request, a new horse (standing or at the trot). They are all now listed under the STS label. The range now covers the European theatre from 1815 up to and including 1870, with some of the new bodies useful for the Franco Prussian War of 1870/71.  In addition, the range also includes heads and bodies for the Latin American wars of independence during the 19th century, and the American/Mexican conflict 0f 1846-48.

CLASSIC WARGAMES JOURNAL

I was also very pleased to see the introduction of Phil Olley’s new newsletter/magazine . It is a fantastic addition to the regular written word for our hobby and I believe its content and philosophy (although I am sure Phil wouldn’t call it that) appeals to at least 90% of our customer base and hence I have no hesitation in recommending it and wishing Phil all the best for future publications. If you need to know how to get hold of a copy or apply for a subscription then just go to Phil’s blog – ‘classicwargamingblog’.

BRAND NEW RANGES!

We are delighted to announce not just one, but TWO new ranges! The first is a series of Jacklex 20mm miniatures covering the American Punitive Expedition into Mexico in 1917 — the famous "Pancho Villa" war. The second is a completely new venture for Spencer Smith, which we have christened the "Classic" range: a specially-commissioned range of multi-part 30mm miniatures covering the European wars of the second half of the 19th century. First out of the blocks are French, Prussian and Bavarian infantry for the Franco Prussian War of 1870-71. Both these ranges have now had their photos uploaded.

DON FEATHERSTONE'S HORSE AND MUSKET RULES NOW AVAILABLE AS A PDF!
You can now purchase Don's horse and musket rules, featuring the famous "Action in the Plattville Valley" ACW demonstration game, right here on the site as a digital download for just £2.00! Just go to the SSM introduction page to find the PayPal "Buy it now" link. After making your purchase, PayPal provides a link back to our special download page.

NAPOLEONICS PHOTOS ADDED
Photos have been added to the Napoleonics page. As well as adding the usual black and white thumbnails linking to enlargements, we have also included links to some full colour examples painted by John Preece in classic toy soldier style.

RULE BOOKS FOR SALE
Images of the Don Featherstone and Clive Jebbett rules have been added to the main Spencer Smith page: just click on the SSM heading above.

SHINY TOY SOLDIERS GALORE
With our final update this week, we have completed the Shiny Toy Soldier listings (bar one head and one body owing to an administrative mix-up). Seeing the complete range of possibilities is a testament to Aly Morrison's sculpting skills: you really can create almost anything from the 19th century!

18th CENTURY EXPANSION
As well as adding a standing, firing musketeer to our standard range of figures, there are also a number of new additions to our new range for the Wars of the Austrian Succession, including a nice selection for 'kleine Krieg' on the wilder fringes of the conflict. This is the first of a number of major updates taking place over the next couple of days.

MORE SHINY TOY SOLDIERS
More bits and pieces have been added to the Shiny Toy Soldiers range, making it possible to build even more types from different conflicts of the 19th century. Photos will follow shortly: we have had to delay sending the bits to Henry because of the recent postal strikes. We have also added an article written by STS creator Aly Morrison.

ACW PHOTOS IN THE GALLERY
Customer Bob Kett has very kindly provided us with a clutch of photos of his Spencer Smith ACW collection. Thank you, Bob!

WEBSITE OVERHAUL FOR SHINY TOY SOLDIERS
Following our collaboration with highly respected figure designer Aly Morrison, we are delighted to announce that we are now able to offer his wonderful range of 42mm multi-part figures for sale here under the section headed S.T.S. Photos of all the individual parts have now been added, as well as some examples of completed figures.
In order to accommodate this brand new range, which encompasses the European wars of the mid-19th century, we have re-constructed our website to be optimised for 1024x768 pixels, which you should find gives the site more 'elbow room'.
We have also posted some photos of Aly's lovely miniatures in the Gallery section. Battlegames editor Henry Hyde was on the prowl at Salute in April, where he came across a lovely game staged by the Continental Wars Society, who specialise in this period.
We are delighted to welcome Aly aboard, and we are sure that you will be as thrilled with the new range as we are.

NEW WAR OF THE AUSTRIAN SUCCESSION RANGE
We have just added our first new range of figures in over 30 years, thanks to the efforts of customer Rob Grace who carried out some conversions on our 'Standard' range of 18th century figures.
Designed for the wars of the first half of the eighteenth century, and in particular for his 'Blasthof Bridge' project based on the famous game in Brigadier Peter Young and Colonel Lawford's book Charge!, Rob has sculpted a delightful range of figures that are at once familiar and yet interestingly different, with their wider cuffs, broader turnbacks and slightly larger tricornes. Rob approached us to cast figures for his private collection, but it became immediately apparent that they would have an appeal to many of our customers, and so he has kindly agreed to allow us to make the range available to you.
We have listed the new figures on the SSM 18th century page, immediately after the 'Standard' figures. As always, click on the thumbnail photos to see a larger view. All prices are listed on the page.
To show you how the infantry and cavalry miniatures look painted, we have added some photos of part of Rob Grace's beautiful collection to the Gallery page.
Rob's 'Blasthof Bridge' will be appearing in a forthcoming issue of Battlegames magazine.
